We are so happy to have stumbled across the work of artisan quilt maker and mum of one Tessa Layzelle. The aesthetic of her work is strongly reminiscent of mid-century modern style, whilst combining with techniques cherry picked from different cultures and traditions, and the results are stunning. Her pieces are truly heirlooms to be passed down from generation to generation.
Each piece is hand cut and appliquéd before being layered with 100% batting, then hands finished. No machines are used in this process and the two smallest shapes are hand dyed: a small understated, tactile artwork
The design comes from a magazine cutting of painter Cy Twombly's studio in Rome (an arch, a stair, a bust on a plinth) with the vivid sea green borrowed from some teeny splatters found in a Jocknum Nordstrom collage. This is an edition of 5 and comes with a painted fabric postcard.
